"Vacation" (Parity CA, steps 0 and 80)
In the middle of this century, the Kung San of southern Africa ceased to move from place to place as they became weighted down with personal possessions (having succumbed to the hegemony of the previously alien concept of property). Their huts, which had faced one another in the flux of their temporary camps, now, in their permanent settlements, faced apart. "Leaving", formerly uncomplicated, has here become transmuted, unconsummated, full of subterranean effort. It is in such crypto-movements at the dawn of sedentary society that we see most clearly its essential contradiction.
